Richard Morgan

Richard L. Morgan, born September 19, 1936, passed away on April 26, 2018 at home, surrounded by family.

He was the son of the late Cecil and Stella Morgan.  He was also predeceased by his only sibling, Ronald L. Morgan.

Born in Battle Creek, MI, he graduated from Lakeview High School. At that time, he knew he wanted to work in the pulp and paper industry.  To reach that goal, he enrolled in Western Michigan University's Pulp and Paper Technology Department, all the while working the 3:00pm to 11:00pm shift at Michigan Carton Paper Company.  He graduated with an engineering degree in Pulp and Paper Technology.

After graduation, he worked for several paper companies including 20 plus years with Weyerhaeuser Company where he traveled worldwide.  His last employment was with United Corrstack in Reading, PA.  One of his proudest work accomplishments was when he and his team designed, built, and started up the Corrstack paper machine.  He retired in July 2003.

During his career, in 1970, he was chosen to be one of six young professionals to represent Michigan in a Group Study Exchange Team to Sweden.  In 1984, he was one of only 27 people in the US/Canada asked to participate in the People to People Pulp and Paper Delegation to the Republic of China.

Between high school and college, he married his wife, Allie Jeane Foley.  They celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2018.  They have two children: Ronald, husband of Linda, and Tracy, partner of John.  Four grandchildren: Duane, husband of Beth, Cecil, husband of Amy, Keah and Karissa.  Eleven great grandchildren: Isabella, Ben, Mason, Stellan, Greeley, Emily, Gloria, Aubrie, Bryce, Riley, and Una.

Richard and his wife also hosted eight foreign high school exchange students who lived with them for a year each, increasing their children to a total of 10.

He was devoted, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.  He was always available to give advise (sometimes without being asked), directions, instructions, and financial support to each and every one of them.

Richard had a type “A” personality, loved to play golf with friends and family, travel, mow his yard and fields, watch college basketball, support his Detroit Tigers, Lions, Michigan State and Michigan University sports teams.

 His family thanks the Heartland Home Health Care for their amazing care.

Richard will be dearly missed by family and friends.  His energy, conversations, humor, love for the Lord, family and friends were all woven together to make him the great man he was.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” service on May 12, 2018 at 10:30am at Salem United Church of Christ, 307 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, PA  19547.
