Richard Edward "Rich" Readdy, 89, formerly of Cumru Township, died August 9, 2022, at Berkshire Commons, Exeter Township.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathleen G. (Bickler) Readdy in 1995, and by his second wife, Sylvia K. Kane in 2018.
Born October 12, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Arthur F. Readdy, Sr. and Mary W. (Pendyk) Readdy.
Richard was a 1950 graduate of Henry Snyder High School, Jersey City. From 1953-1954, Rich proudly served his country in the Korean War. He earned rank of Sergeant in the United States Army. He graduated in 1959 from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Management.
He retired in 1990 from The West Company, Phoenixville, where he was employed for 15 years as a human resources executive.
Richard was a member of Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Muhlenberg Township, and a former member of St. Benedict’s R.C. Church, Brecknock Township.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
A Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, he was also a past member of the East Brunswick, NJ Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President from 1964-1965. Richard loved following and cheering the Detroit sports teams.
Surviving are five of his six children: Cathleen M., wife of Anthony J. Wiencek; Susan J., wife of R. Scott Hughes; Dianne C., wife of Christopher M. Konnick; Richard A., husband of Jeannine J. (Reinert) Readdy; and James F., husband of Jean J. (DiGiacomo) Readdy. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Thomas E. Readdy, who died October 12, 2021. Tom was the husband of Lolita A. (Reber) Readdy.
Also surviving are his 16 grandchildren: Christopher Hughes, Stephen Hughes, Anthony Wiencek, Matthew Konnick, Cathleen Cordova, Allison Palange, Richard Readdy, Michael Wiencek, Patrick Readdy, Nicholas Readdy, Emily Aunio, Christopher Stayman-Wiencek, Joseph Readdy, Elizabeth Readdy, Katelyn Bennett, and Harry DiGiacomo.
There are also 12 great grandchildren: Addison, Ashley, Andrew, Brielle, Caleigh, Cathleen, Alexander, Benjamin, Anthony, Madison, Wuyoch, and Ava.
In addition, he is survived by his sister, Carole A., wife of Joseph L. Smith, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur F. Readdy, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, by Rev. E. Michael Camilli, on Saturday, August 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605.
Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 8 p.m., at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Reading, and Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow the Mass at Gethsemane Cemetery.
