Samuel Gensemer Obituary

Samuel D. Gensemer, 96, formerly of Stony Creek, died June 16, 2022 at Willow Brook Rehabilitation & Healthcare, Kutztown.

He was the widower of Leona E. (DeLong) Gensemer who died August 31, 2008.  They shared over 50 years of marriage.

Born November 9, 1925, in Shillington, he was a son of the late Raymond C. Gensemer and Elsie C. (Umbenhauer) Zettlemoyer.

Sam proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

He was employed as a tow motor operator with Carpenter Technologies for over 20 years, retiring in 1987.

Surviving are his three children: Heather L., wife of Christopher M. McHale of Morgantown; Holly L., wife of Gary C. Wolf of Ruscombmanor Township; and Hugh L., husband of Crystal A. Gensemer of Denver, Lancaster County.

Other survivors include his three grandchildren: Katrina Hinnershitz, Aaron Hinnershitz, husband of Nicole, Jordan Gensemer, and a step grandson, Gabriel Mlynar; and a great grandson, Luca Hinnershitz.

Also surviving is his brother, LeRoy Gensemer of Cumru Township, and his sister, Bert Arnold of Blue Bell, PA.

Sam was preceded in death by a son, Samuel D. Gensemer, Jr. in 1962, and by three siblings, Carl, Raymond and Pearl Gensemer.

Services will be held Monday, June 20th at 11 a.m. at Spies-Zion Cemetery, 318 Spies Church Road, Reading (Alsace Township), PA 19606.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Avenue, Boyertown, PA 19512.
