Shirley E. Reed, 85, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away Friday, April 10, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 14, 1940 in West Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elmer DeTurck and Lillian (Kreischer) DeTurck.
Shirley was a 1958 graduate of Oley Valley High School. After graduating she worked as a waitress at a number of restaurants in the Reading area. She then was employed by Western Electric as a clean room technician and finished her career with Lucent Technologies.
In Shirley's free time she loved to stay active. She absolutely loved dogs. You could always find her walking her dog Wrinkles. She also enjoyed tending to her garden, cooking, sewing, and working on her many needlepoint projects. Her favorite activity was spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Surviving are four children: David Wamsher of Reading, PA; Glen Wamsher, wife of Sheila (Babb) of Fleetwood, PA; Kathy (Smith) Boyer of Temple, PA; and Lisa (Smith) Rone, wife of Michael of Charlotte, NC.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Bridgette Wamsher; Tiffany Wamsher; Andrew Boyer; Kevin Wamsher; Michael Wamsher: Taryn Boyer; Jaelyn Rone; and Jordan Rone.
Shirley leaves behind four great grandchildren: Lilly; Noah; Aurora; and Quentin.
She was predeceased by one son, Paul Christopher Smith, and one grandchild, Justin Seiders. Shirley was also predeceased by two brothers, Elmer “Fud” DeTurck, and Donald “Bimmie” DeTurck.
A committal service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Frieden’s Cemetery, 337 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
