July 29, 1954 ~ March 25, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years OldMichael Ray Bortz, 62, of Exeter Township, died March 25, 2017 in his home.
Born July 29, 1954 in Reading, he was a son of Ray Charles and Dorothy Marie (Hafer) Bortz of Oley.
Michael was a 1972 graduate of Oley High School. He attended Penn State University and later received his master’s degree from University of Arizona in sports medicine.
He was employed as a athletic trainer by Amphitheatre High School in Arizona and Muhlenberg College, where he also was inducted in the College Hall of Fame for coaching. Michael also worked for Met-Ed and later retired from Exeter High School as an athletic trainer, doing what he loved best.
Michael was an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow.
He loved the beach, hunting, fishing, music and traveling especially to Mexico, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his daughters: Melissa Sage, wife of Adam Uhniat of Reading and Jennifer Lee, wife of Shawn Pollock of Temple; his grandchildren, Sadie and Jack Pollock and his brother Andrew Lane Bortz and two nephews Zachary and Dillon.
Services will be Friday, March 31, 2017 at 12:00 pm in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 325 Covered Bridge Road, Oley. A viewing will be held from 10am-12pm in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakota Indian Reservation, 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
